Original Idea and Inspiration
For my product i originally wanted to create fabric pencil cases using my own fabric inspired by these ones by Kitty Mcall. I loved the bright colours and how they contrasted against the zip and the overall look of the bag.
Below is a digital mock-up of how i imagined my pencil cases to look for my final product with fabric i created from my design based off my project. I really liked how it looked and felt it could look really effective, however unfortunately after really thinking about the product and costing up how much the fabric would be as well as the zippers and also the cost of my time i felt this would not be efficient as i would need to price it quite high if i wanted any kind of reasonable profit.
After thinking about this i began to generate of ideas to how i could produce a pencil case in a similar way yet it would be more affordable. ThereforeI bang playing around with heat press as this is a method I’m using to print tote bags. Therefore, i ordered a range of canvas pencil cases along with heat transfer paper. However, after producing a sample i found that the heat press did not officially work as the canvas was too texturised and did not transfer properly.
Therefore, i had to reevaluate my ideas again. This time i actually change my overall design creating more of a vignette illustration that could sit on a pencil case with no awkward printing lines or borders. Therefore, included one of the animals i designed as i felt it would be nice to add a bit more of a focus for a bit of contrast as most of my design include the main leaf designs.
Below shows what the design would look like on the pencil case, when printed. I love how it looks and feel it really creates a contrast compared to the other products, whilst also telling more of the narrative using the characters. For this i will be using the supplier doodle bag, as these are a supplier i have used in the past and all products i have ordered before are great quality and the print always look professional.
