Observational leaf drawings

After experimenting with the abstract style inspired my research I felt it was best for me develop my project further by looking observationally at leaves focusing on their shapes and colours and how this could be used within my final products. After creating a range of research I found I wanted to create a range of products with a focus on the botanical elements of the jungle book with hints linking towards the characters and the narrative. Therefore i felt the best way to start this creation process was looking at observational skills.

Above shows my sketchbook page from this visual research. I decided to play around with two main medias, pencil and gouache paints. I chose both these as i like how they really show traditional texture giving a unique elements. I kept to a simplistic style focusing on the shapes and linework. I feel this page is rather successful and allowed me to work loosely whilst still think about the character of the individual types of leaves. To develop this further I will begin to think about how i can put these together to develop a pattern and more of an outcome.
